How it works

How Our Care Works

From booking to follow-up, and what happens when your care needs more than a screen.

Regional Women’s Wellness is a GP-led women’s health telehealth practice for women living outside major cities.

You book online, meet your GP by video, and your scripts, pathology forms and referrals arrive electronically. You see the same GP every time. And when your care needs hands rather than a screen, we have a pathway for that too.

Step 01

Booking your appointment

You book online with a GP or allied health clinician (dietitian, lactation consultant, sleep, psychology and psychotherapy) at a time that suits you.

  • No referral is needed unless you have a chronic disease management plan.
  • Appointment times display in your local time zone, so there is no mental arithmetic required if you’re in Broome and we’re in Sydney.
Step 02

Before your appointment

We send a confirmation, a video link and a short new patient form.

We’ll also ask you to email through any recent blood tests or imaging, including mammograms, and to have your blood pressure checked at your local pharmacy first.

A little homework before we’ve even said hello, yes. But every result you send ahead is a question we don’t have to spend your appointment answering, and blood pressure is one of the few things a screen can’t give us.

Step 03

What happens in the appointment

Initial appointments run up to 60 minutes, because women’s health done properly rarely fits into fifteen.

Your GP

  • takes a full history,
  • asks questions you may never have been asked before,
  • explains what is happening in your body and why,
  • and builds a plan around your goals.

We choose video where we can, because seeing you tells us things words don’t. If the internet’s a struggle, or your webcam’s on the fritz, we can always consult by phone.

Step 04

Prescriptions, tests and referrals

Everything you’d walk out of a clinic holding, we send electronically.

  • Prescriptions arrive as eScripts, to you or the pharmacy of your choice.
  • Pathology forms and imaging referrals come by email or SMS, and you have your bloods, swabs and scans done with your nearest providers.
  • Your results come back to us and we go through them with you properly at a follow-up, because a result without an explanation is just a number, and ‘normal’ has dismissed too many women for us to ever leave it at that.

When telehealth isn’t enough: your pathway to in-person care

Most telehealth services end at the screen. Ours doesn’t.
Some assessments need hands. Some procedures need a room. Some moments in your health deserve a doctor sitting across from you. Rather than pretending otherwise, at Regional Women’s Wellness we’ve planned for it.

01

Specialists who work both ways

When your care needs specialist input, you don’t start from scratch with a stranger in a city. Dr James Bacon (Obstetrician and Gynaecologist), Dr Kath Whitton (CREI Fertility Specialist) and Dr Natassia Rodrigo (Endocrinologist) consult by telehealth first, so the thinking, planning and much of the workup happens from your own home.
If an in-person assessment or procedure is required, they will see you in Sydney, with your RWW GP coordinating so nothing is repeated unnecessarily.

02

A real clinic, when you need one

Regional Women’s Wellness is the telehealth sister of Sydney Women’s Wellness, a women’s health clinic on Sydney’s Lower North Shore.
If an examination or a procedure such as an IUD insertion is what your care requires, you can be seen there, by a team that already knows you, because they are our team.
Most telehealth services cannot offer this, because most telehealth services do not have a clinic. We do.

03

Local providers, wherever possible

Travel should be the last resort, not the default. There are excellent doctors working across regional and remote Australia, and wherever we can we’ll find you a trusted option close to home: a local GP who can examine you, a regional gynaecology service, a procedural clinic within reasonable reach. We refer locally first and keep coordinating around whoever you see, so you’re never left to join the dots yourself.

In the years ahead we hope to bring in-person clinics to regional centres so the journey gets shorter still. Until then, this pathway means you get everything telehealth does well, without ever being stranded at the edge of what it can't do.

“Telehealth is how we reach you, with in-person care for the moments that need more than a screen.”
